Insomnia and binaural beats

Binaural beats are created using stereo headphones or earbuds that provide sounds of different frequency into each ear.  It is this difference in frequency that is recognized in the brain as the binaural beat.    This new frequency is thought to slow down brain activity and is believed to induce increased relaxation, decreased anxiety and a prolonged state of deeper sleep. Delta activity, a frequency of around 3 Hz is associated with deep sleep and the feeling of being refreshed in the morning.

There are lots of free tracks available online designed for improving sleep that you can listen to. This makes it easy to see if this technique is something that can help you.  Some versions have nature sounds in the background, or others use white noise, whatever your personal preference just make sure they have delta or even theta binaural beats (range 2-8Hz).  The frequency of the binaural beats can be altered to correspond to frequencies associated with different brainwave activity, for example; gamma, delta, alpha, beta or theta. In this way it is thought they can be used for other things besides sleep such as inspiring creativity, lifting mood, focusing concentration and supporting meditation therefore making use of the desired frequency crucial. There is no recognized or recommended length of time to listen to these so you have to go with what works best for you.  The important thing is that both ears have to be connected to the source to realize the benefits of the sound therapy.

Binaural beats is actually a sound wave phenomenon, and because at the moment I'm really into energy, vibration, frequencies and resonance,  I find this topic incredibly interesting. Having been diagnosed with suffering from insomnia myself, with many nights spent without entering deep sleep, I was willing to try anything to improve both sleep quality and quantity.  Over time have I found that the best way to optimize my sleep was to habit stack all the different strategies I learned for optimal results.  Each small intervention having its own small effect that when combined with other tools had a significantly impact.

Binaural beats was one useful technique I could easily add into my armamentarium and often do so.

There are many others.....

but they, like the topic of insomnia, deserve there own post!
